Ryan Vickers made it a LAMI OMG Racing 1-2 in the final British Superbike Championship free practice session at Donington Park on Saturday morning, the Yamaha rider edging out team-mate Kyle Ryde by 0.025s with Leon Haslam (ROKiT BMW Motorrad Team) placing third.

Haslam was the first to lay down a lap time at 1’29.165 and he was soon joined in the 1’29’s by championship leader Glenn Irwin (BeerMonster Ducati) and Ryde but the BMW rider upped the pace second time around with a lap of 1’28.637.

Andrew Irwin (Honda Racing) slotted into fourth after five minutes of the session with Niccolo Canepa (McAMS Yamaha) behind him as both Vickers and Tommy Bridewell on the second BeerMonster Ducati also posted laps in the 1’29’s.

Back at the top of the leaderboard and Haslam’s fourth lap saw him go quicker again at 1’28.110 but Ryde almost matched his lap time, just 0.004s separating them. The Yamaha rider than went quickest though with a lap of 1’27.942 and team-mate Vickers jumped up to second, just over a tenth of a second behind.

Haslam was now in third, albeit having improved again to 1’28.095, ahead of Glenn Irwin, Charlie Nesbitt (MasterMac Honda by Hawk Racing) and Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW).

At the halfway point of the twenty-minute session, Vickers went quickest at 1.27.917 which gave him a slender 0.025s advantage over Ryde whilst further back, Nesbitt and Tommy Bridewell moved up to fourth and fifth respectively, which pushed Glenn Irwin down to sixth. That soon changed though as Jason O’Halloran overhauled both Bridewell and Irwin to take over fifth place.

The top six positions remained the same, but Haslam lapped at 1’27.951 on his final lap to close to within 0.034s of Vickers and become the third rider in the 1’27’s whilst the top ten was completed by Glenn Irwin, Storm Stacey (Starline Racing Kawasaki), Hickman and Christian Iddon (Oxford Products Racing Ducati).
