Centurion Honda's Tom Grant and Dan Cooper have returned from a three-day test session at Spain's Cartagena circuit, declaring they are more than ready for the 2009 British Supersport Championship.
The varying weather conditions caused problems on the first day and the riders patiently waited for the sun to break through. On the final day Grant and Cooper were able to get out on track and set some very fast and very consistent lap times, both finding a good set up on the Honda's.
On the spectacular Cartagena circuit, Grant was unfortunate to have a small crash after catching his left foot peg but walked away unscathed but his bike needed some work on it.
"We tried a small race simulation on the last day, which gave us a lot of feedback on the tyre life of the new compound tyre. Feeling comfortable throughout the race simulation I sat in the mid-1'37s for the whole 13 laps," said Grant.
"The last session of the day I went out on fresh tyres trying to find a clear track and achieve a good lap to finish off three brilliant days with Centurion Race Team. After pushing for seven laps we came out with a best time of 1.37.1, taking 0.4 off my previous time. I felt this was very good and parked the bike up ready for the season opener at Brands Hatch."
Dan Cooper added: "We experimented with different fuel maps and settings as we used the race fuel in which we would be using for the season and this made the bike perform a lot better, which resulted in my lap times reducing. In the afternoon we tried some softer race tyres and these also suited the track a lot better and another chunk of time was knocked off of my times.
"We have now finished our testing in Spain for the forthcoming season but have a few small test sessions back home. Overall I am very pleased with the testing we have done, and I am feeling very confident on the bike and really looking forward to Brands Hatch in April."
