The 2024 Showdown is well underway and Christian Iddon is hoping to get his Championship challenge back on track.
Christian Iddon is back in British Superbike (BSB) Championship contention as the 2024 Showdown begins. However, on the opening day at Oulton Park Iddon had an 'interesting' day of Practice.
As it stands Iddon sits fourth in the standings, 63 points behind the Championship leader Tommy Bridewell. Since standing on the podium in Race Three at Brands Hatch the Oxford Products Racing rider has had a difficult couple of rounds.
At Thruxton, Iddon finished in ninth, sixth and 13th which was followed by finishing in 13th, ninth and eighth at Cadwell Park. Iddon is aware that these rounds are what lost him ground in the standings.
"For myself, the last round at Cadwell was the difficult round," Iddon said on Friday evening. "Thruxton was difficult but Tommy (Bridewell) and Kyle (Ryde) did not capitalise and at Cadwell, we weren't very quick and they really capitalised there.
"That is where the points gap opened up massively, it is 63 to me which is a lot but in a couple of races, it can all turn around pretty quickly. It is a tough one to climb, especially against such talented riders, they don't make many mistakes."
Iddon then went on to speak about the start of his weekend at Oulton Park. This is a circuit that should suit Iddon on paper as he stood on the podium in all three races earlier this season. However, after a difficult morning session, Iddon ended up finishing the day in sixth place.
"We just have to focus on what we are doing," Iddon stated. "Today has been interesting, it was not the easiest of days I have got to admit. In the first session, we could not find any feeling and it is odd because we had three podiums here at the start of the year. I came here thinking we could get our Championship back on track and instead, I was wobbling around doing God knows what this morning.
"That session then (FP2) was a bit better I think the track was quite green but it has rubbered in a little bit. I feel quite good and now we can start to work, I am getting some sort of flow so roll on tomorrow."
