Irwin to partner Easton at Mar-Train Yamaha

Ulsterman Glenn Irwin will partner Stuart Easton in next year's Motorpoint British Supersport Championship after signing to ride for the Mar-Train Yamaha squad.

Irwin is a former double Irish Supersport champion and rode for Mar-Train in a one-off appearance in 2011, breaking the Supersport lap record at Kirkistown on the team’s R6 Yamaha. He competed in this season’s British Supersport Championship on a privately backed R6, and received technical support from Mar-Train Racing.

“I spoke to Tim about a deal in 2011 for this year, but it was probably a blessing in disguise having to wait another twelve months, which gave me a learning year in the class. I’ve my personal sponsors sorted, and they have been very loyal to me, and coming in to ride alongside such an experienced man as Stuart is very exciting," said the youngster.

"I can learn so much from him on and off the track. The Mar-Train Yamaha is a proven race winner and having ridden one this season, I know we can hit the ground running. The team will be putting a big effort in behind the scenes, and I’ll be working hard on my training and diet to come to the first round in the best possible shape and physical condition.”
