SMT Racing has expanded their team line-up for 2013 with Adam Jenkinson re-joining the team for a full assault on the Pirelli National Superstock 1000cc Championship as their return to the BSB paddock continues.
Jenkinson enjoyed a successful spell with Robin Croft’s team between 2007 and 2009, taking fourth overall in the 2009 Superstock 1000cc Championship which included a race win at Silverstone and four podiums in total and he’s since tasted further success in the class with the Padgetts Honda squad.
The Manchester rider, who rose to prominence in the Virgin Mobile R6 Cup, had a number of options for 2013 but was struggling to decide which path to take due to financial restrictions so when Croft and SMT Racing threw him a lifeline and offered him a ride for the season, he readily accepted.
Jenkinson will switch to a Kawasaki ZX-10R for the season ahead although he does have experience with the manufacturer, albeit in the Superbike class, when he rode for Buildbase Kawasaki in the 2010 BSB series. With both team and rider rejuvenated for the year ahead, they will surely go into the 12-round Championship as one of the favourites.
Speaking about the move, team owner Croft commented; “I’ve known Adam since 2007 and have obviously run him before, enjoying a good, successful relationship so when I heard it looked like he’d be sitting the season out due to a lack of finance, I decided to see if we could help him out. He’s too good a rider to be sitting on the sidelines so after several meetings and a few phone calls, I decided to stretch the team’s effort and add Adam to our sidecar effort with Tim Reeves.”
“There’s no doubt in my mind that Adam has the potential to win the Championship so we’ll be doing everything we can to achieve that goal. With both Adam and Tim in the line-up, as well as Dan Stewart spearheading our solo effort at the TT, we’re extremely hopeful of having a strong 2013 season.”
