Map Raceways Yamaha’s Billy McConnell kept pole position ahead of H M Plant Honda’s Steve Plater, Padgetts Motorcycles Ian Hutchinson and with J W Racing/JT Performance’s James Westmoreland rounding off the front row.
McConnell at the start of the session set the fastest lap of 0.49’962s, the only rider to break into the 0’49s. Plater also took second and kept it from the start of the session, leaving the remaining riders to battle for third.
The session was red flagged due to Jenny Tinmouth of Sorrymate.com suffering a technical problem which put oil on the track. Unfortunately that left the Ellesmere Port rider down in 29th place on the grid for tomorrow’s race.
Westmoreland held third place for the majority of the session until Hutchinson gave it all he had escalating him to the front row after running in sixth. Lee Johnston of Map Raceways Yamaha who returns after having to miss the previous due to injury was holding in fourth, but again lost out in the end.
With the progress of Hutchinson to third and Tom Grant of Centurion Racing to fifth, Johnson had to settle for sixth overall. Sam Lowes of Astro Racing Honda was the first cup rider in tenth place with his closet cup rival Robbie Brown of AGB Transport/Packet Media in 17th place.
This was an impressive return for Brown who crashed in practice this morning severely damaging his bike. Slightly down the order Dean Hipwell of Atherton Godfrey Solicitors in 20th was the third cup rider.
