Knockhill BSB: Mossey quickest in final practice

JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Luke Mossey went one tenth under lap record pace during the final MCE British Superbike free practice session at Knockhill, setting a quick 48.159.

Mossey did not complete that many laps as he spent some of the time in his garage, with what looked  to be a tech issue with his ZX-10RR, but on lap 17 he had done enough to go P1 on the sheets.

Reigning champ, Be Wiser Ducati's Shane Byrne was once again the second quickest rider during a free practice outing, with a 48.390, with McAMS Yamaha's James Ellison going third on the timing-screens with a solid 48.423 lap.

It was a strong outing for young-gun, RAF Reserves Kawasaki's Jake Dixon who was fourth fastest this morning, with Isle of Man TT podium finisher, Peter Hickman completing the top five.

There were three riders missing from the morning's track action and they were JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Leon Haslam, Be Wiser Ducati's Glenn Irwin and Tyco BMW's Christian Iddon.

Current series leader, Haslam is out of action with some cracked vertebrae and has to sit out the weekend's races due to concussion protocol regulations. Irwin is recuperating from dislocating his shoulder and elbow, and Iddon is having a wound on his left arm treated. It is unsure if he will take part in Sunday's two races.

Jakub Smrz fell at turn 4, but was declared OK at the trackside. Former MotoGP star, John Hopkins was another rider who took a tumble in Scotland. He had an off at turn 3, and like Smrz did not have to attend the medical centre.

Smiths Racing's Lee Jackson also crashed at turn 3, minutes after Hopkins and he was also able to walk away from the incident. The youngster did bring out the red flags as debris had to be cleared on the apex kerb at turn 3.

Honda Racing's Dan Linfoot was the fastest Fireblade rider in P6, followed by Brookes, Hopkins, Smrz, O'Halloran and Laverty making up the top 11 on the timesheets.
