Astro Racing Kawasaki’s Chris Northover finished fifth in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Knockhill, his second best result so far this season following his move up to the category after finishing third in the 2008 Superstock 600 series.
Previously racing for Team HARIBO Starmix who continues to heavily support the rider in his progress forward Northover joins the Astro Kawasaki team for a two year plan in which this season will be a learning season for all before taking on the main challenge next year.
Northover’s said: “It’s hard work, really tough, you can’t get away with anything we are all so close. Three engines have already gone, but otherwise it is good. We are currently a bit slower, it’s a bit swings and roundabouts. As it’s a learning year we are trying not to spend too much, but we need to learn how Supersport works, regards to the engine, tyres and so on.”
“I am out there riding, learning and hopefully I will get better positions by the end of the year. I feel we are getting stronger and are working through the issues. I am aiming for podiums in the cup championship and by the end of the season points in the main championship. I was 17th at Brands Hatch, not too far off.”
Northover who now works as a Design Engineer for Triumph in Hinckley currently sits sixth in the cup championship and has narrowly missed out on a podium. Although he is a little frustrated as in true racer style he wants to be winning and often has to remind himself that it is a learning year he has had a positive start. Now at just reaching the half way point of the season there is no doubt more to come.
