Vent-Axia/wwwsp125racing.com’s Lee Costello is taking part in his last weekend on a 125cc at Mallory this weekend for the seventh round of the Relentless British GP125 Championship before taking the daring leap to the Superstock 1000 category at the next round at Brands Hatch.
Due to sponsors preference and his 2009 season not going to plan Costello has decided it is now time to move categories. Costello will be taking part in the Superstock 1000 on a Fireblade which he is due to first test on Monday at Cadwell Park.
Costello said: “My sponsor wants me on a bigger bike and if I go to the Superstock 600cc there is an age limit of 24, I’m 23 now so I don’t want to do a bit in the 600cc and then have to move up to the 1000cc. Going straight to the 1000cc’s cuts out the middle man.”
Unable to hide his disappointment, talking about his season Costello said: “Its not been good, keep getting DNFs and having crashes. I wanted to win this title really, but that isn’t going to happen. Even here, last year I won, but this weekend in first qualifying I was 11th. I am doing nothing different.”
“I will miss the 125cc's and moving classes will be a change something very different so we will just have to see how it goes. The idea is to spend the rest of the year testing ready for next year. This change is either going to be a good turning point to my season or not.”
