MAP Raceways Yamaha’s Billy McConnell held pole position at the seventh round of the British Supersport Championship at Mallory this weekend with his breathtaking time from first qualifying.
The second qualifying session took place under dry but breezy conditions in which the top six places remained the same as the earlier session. It was one of McConnell’s teammate who benefited the most by leaping from 14th to ninth.
For the majority of the session only five riders had improved on their time until very late in the session. It has been a very positive weekend for the Gearlink Kawasaki with both riders Chris Martin and Ben Wilson continuing their strong weekend to start from the front row.
Even though current championship leader Steve Plater of HM Plant Honda had to settle for sixth place this doesn’t mean he wont be part of the race. North West 200 Coca Cola Zero replacement rider Brendan Roberts has steadily progressed through the weekend to round off the fourth row in 16th place.
Cup title chaser Sam Lowes of Astro Racing Honda continued to be the top cup rider by finishing seventh, the only cup rider to make it into the top ten. His closest rival Dean Hipwell of Atherton Godfrey Solicitiors rounded off the top 15.
