MALLORY BSB: MCCONNELL'S LAP AT SUPERBIKE PACE

MAP Raceways Yamaha’s Billy McConnell stormed around Mallory in first qualifying this morning for the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship setting the fastest time of 0’56.354s which not only gave him pole position but also would have put him an astounding second place on the Superbike grid.
McConnell said: “It didn’t feel like the fastest lap as I hit a lot of traffic, but the traffic must have been good in helping me slipstream onto the straight.  Basically it is down to a good team.”
“This team is like a breath of fresh air they have good working ethics, it’s a great team and bike, the bike is working really well.  Also I am really fit, I am training for a triathlon and I think it all has naturally just come together.”
McConnell will be aiming to keep pole in this afternoon’s second qualifying session in preparation for tomorrows race to gain vital points towards retaking the championship lead before moving on to an off circuit challenge of a triathlon to raise money for the charity www.Getkidsgoing.com taking place on the first weekend of August in London.
