MSS Kawasaki's Billy McConnell will move back into the British Supersport Championship for 2009 after signing a deal with Raceways Yamaha yesterday.
Aussie McConnell who, by his own admission, hasn't had the greatest of seasons in the British Superbike Championship, is looking forward to getting back on a 600cc bike and feels like he has more than a fair chance of taking the title.
"I was talking to the team over the weekend but I thought they had done a deal with Hudson," said McConnell."However, we talked a bit more, then I got a call and we signed yesterday. It's not been a great season in Superbikes but it isn't Nick's fault.
"We ended up running stock gearboxes and stuff just because the team ran out of budget and Nick [Morgan] just tried really hard to give us the best bike he could. He was working on the bikes himself towards the end. I have enjoyed being with the team and I'd like to thank them all for the opportunity this season.
"Being with Raceways for 2009 is a great opportunity too. It looks like we will have full Yamaha backing and it will be great to be back with Yamaha again. I think we have a great chance of being right up there from the start and I am going home [to Australia] for the winter to do some proper training in the sun."
It is not knows yet why Raceways have parted company with Hudson Kennaugh.
