Moto Rapido season in difficulty as title sponsor goes bust

Moto Rapido Ducati are facing a cash crisis which could mean a second rider is impossible for their 2017 MCE British Superbike season after title sponsor Lloyds British went bust owing them a balance of just under £50,000.

Administrators PriceWaterhouseCoopers have been called in to the Birmingham business and are running it as a going concern while they look for buyers but it leaves Moto Rapido boss Steve Moore with a substantial financial headache which will delay their plans for a second rider.

“This is very disappointing and a big surprise, I don’t know too much about the situation as we have had no contact from the Lloyds British boss but having spoken to the administrators today we have no chance of the outstanding 2016 invoices being paid, so it’s hit us hard going into the winter but it’s just another hurdle we’ll overcome,” Moore told BSN.

“Cash flow is a big issue with any business, especially motorsport. While our testing and racing plan for John Hopkins remains unaffected it does mean our news of a second rider is now postponed until we can find the correct sponsor, which is a great shame.

“Of course it now leaves us looking for a replacement sponsor with just a few months to the beginning of the 2017 season but we have a very strong rider and bike line up for 2017 and can offer an outstanding package.”
