Double World Champion Niccolo Canepa will make his debut in the British Superbike Championship at Donington Park after being called up by the McAMS Yamaha team for the final two rounds of the season.
The experienced Italian has accrued MotoGP and WorldSBK starts during his long career, while he is also Yamaha’s official test rider and twice an Endurance World Champion.
He will assume the seat originally slated for Tim Neave, who left the team earlier in the season, and has since been assumed for short tenures by Tito Rabat and Luke Stapleford thereafter.
It will mark Canepa’s first outing in BSB and sees him present for the team’s final races in the series before it withdraws at the end of the year.
“I’m excited to join the BSB grid next weekend. During my career, I have raced in many championships but never British Superbikes, so I’m excited and proud to join McAMS Yamaha for the final two races.
“I’ve always seen the team as the best in BSB so to be asked to join them for their final two races is special for me. I know the championship is difficult and the level is high, but I hope to bring the team some good results.”
