Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne was the quickest rider during the final MCE British Superbike free practice session at Oulton Park as windy conditions dictated that most of the pack were nearly a second off the pace from yesterday’s second practice.
But Byrne powered through and was able to lap a 1’34.949, with JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam setting the second fastest time this morning, three-tenths down on the reigning champion.
His team-mate Luke Mossey was the first rider to put down a solid lap time, but was out-paced by Haslam and then Byrne. The two title rivals were the only ones to lap in the 1’34’s, with Mossey ending FP3 with a 1’35.365.
Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin took the quickest rider accolade in the opening free practice session on Saturday, but today was fourth on the sheets after a 1’35.412 effort. Youngster Jake Dixon impressed with a time that placed his RAF Reserves backed Kawasaki fifth on the timesheets, followed by James Ellison, Josh Brookes, Peter Hickman, Christian Iddon and Tommy Bridewell.
There were a couple of stoppages at the side of the Cheshire track due to technical issues. Smiths Racing’s Lee Jackson came to a halt at Dentons and then at Lodge, and with six minutes remaining to the session the McAMS Yamaha of Michael Laverty had a issue with his R1 at Lakeside and had to retreat back to his garage.
