Oulton BSB: Byrne overcomes lap ‘mistakes’ to make it to row one

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne admitted that he made ‘mistakes’ on two of his fastest laps during the third MCE British Superbike qualifying session at Oulton Park this afternoon, but even without the perfect lap he was still able to place his Panigale on the front row.

The reigning champion will start from second on the grid and is shoe-horned in between fellow showdown lads, RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon and Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes on row one.

Byrne did struggle with feeling with his Ducati during the free practice sessions on Friday, but his crew have been working hard to iron out any issues and the feeling with the Be Wiser backed red machine improved in time for the three stage qualifying outing.

“I am very happy, after Silverstone I hit the reset button and trained hard and was really relaxed and calm before the job at hand,” said Byrne at the Cheshire track.

“I was kind of looking forward to coming back and starting where we left off but all through Friday we struggled with feeling of the bike and even this morning, and the boys made some good steps and the bike is running much better. I made two mistakes on both my fast laps but Jake went faster.

“Nobody forces you into a mistake if you ride as hard as you can and I out braked myself twice in the last corner but anyway I am on the front row for tomorrow.”
