Oulton BSB: Debut podium 'long time coming' for Buchan

Be Wiser Kawasaki's Danny Buchan seized his maiden podium in the MCE British Superbike class, during the opening race at Oulton Park, where he held on to cross the finishing line in third place.

The tall Essex lad has been knocking on the door nearly all year, and has been up the sharp end, but he has been blighted by crashes and bad luck and hasn't had the start of the season that he would have hoped for. But now things have come good for the rider and he is happy that he was able to bring home a maiden BSB podium for his team too.

Buchan was locked in a battle with PBM Kawasaki's Shane Byrne and JG Speedfit Kawasaki's James Ellison for the majority of the race, and the ZX-10R racer was a little shocked but just how well he did do, and was expecting a brace of top six finishes, and the podium was a very pleasant surprise.

"Obviously the hours testing, training and in-put from the team has paid off and I didn't except a podium as I was expecting two top sixes - it is a long time coming" said Buchan, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

"Once I was in my rhythm there was no stopping me. I kept my head down for the team's first podium and to bring it home here at Oulton Park is amazing.

"We have got a nice bit of silverware and can't wait to get the two races done tomorrow now. I think I let myself down in other races and I made a couple of mistakes - as in Cadwell Park I made a small mistake and it made a big impact, and third is good and I would like to be back here tomorrow in the other two races."
