RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon went under lap record pace in the final MCE British Superbike free practice session at Oulton Park.
The youngest BSB showdown rider lapped a 1’34.218 and went two tenths under the record set by Josh Brookes in 2015. The Australian was heading the sheets until the ZX-10RR went 0.2s quicker.
The Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha man put down a 1’34.477 only to be toppled by Dixon with a few minutes remaining to the final timed session. Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon rounded off the top three and was also a rider who lapped inside the 1’34’s.
Title fighter, JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam was in the mid pack and was lying in ninth but a 1’34.739 pushed the Smalley rider to fourth followed by Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin. The current championship leader and Irwin’s team-mate, Shane Byrne was 0.1s slower than the Northern Irishman.
Byrne clocked a 1’35.121 with fellow showdown racer, Peter Hickman, Hopkins, Ellison and Bridewell completing the top ten. Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran is inside the top six in the standings and JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey is just outside the top six on the overall timesheets and both were unable to lap a sub 1’35 time with a 1’35.496 and 1’35.603 respectively.
