Oulton BSB: Dixon salvages front row with old tyre

Jake Dixon is hoping he can build on his strong form to chase for race wins tomorrow and the rest of the season after his best dry performance of the year so far.

The RAF Reserves and Regulars Kawasaki rider will line up second on the grid for tomorrow’s first Bennetts British Superbike race after throwing in a fast lap in the closing moments of today’s final qualifying session.

It follows a solid day of progress yesterday, when he ended the day fourth quickest overall after testing various new parts and trying a few new settings.

Going even better today, Dixon set his best lap of 1’34.109s, but admits he had to squeeze the last juice from his tyre in Q3 as it was already worn.

“It’s definitely been a tough start – we’ve been fast all year in sessions we don’t need to be fast in,” he said.

“In the wet we’re really fast, but all year we’ve been chasing a setup in the dry and it seems we’ve touched on a little bit of something in FP3 today.

“I had to use my tyre in Q2 to get through to the next session because I didn’t put a very good lap together in the beginning of Q2, so to do a 1’34 flat on my old tyre I was over the moon with it.

“Hopefully this one lap pace can go over to our race pace as well, and hopefully this is the start of the ball rolling now and we can start to do what we did at the end of last year.”
