Padgett's Honda rider Steve Brogan managed to seal second place in the National Superstock 1000 Championship at Oulton Park this afternoon despite getting a ride-through penalty which demoted him from the lead to 18th place.
The Liverpudlian was brought in at the end of lap five after jumping the start and left the pitlane right down the order but battled his way back to fourth by the time the chequered flag came out, passing team-mate John McGuinness to ensure second was his.
The third Padgett's Honda of Ian Hutchinson won the race by more than 12 seconds after he and Co-ordit Yamaha's Richard Cooper had stretched away from the pack but Cooper crashed out at Shell Oils Hairpin on lap eight, leaving Hutchinson to stand on top of the rostrum.
After Moto Rapido Ducati's Scott Smart retired on lap six, Marshall Neill and Adam Jenkinson were locked in a furious battle for the final two podium places. Neill went up the inside of Jenkinson into Hizzy's but good drive from the SMT Honda man saw him able to pass the Irishman on the brakes into Lodge for second.
Brogan took fourth as the SMT Honda-mounted current British Supermoto Champion Christian Iddon, and ex-champ Sam Warren diced for fifth, with the Skipshop Honda man coming out on top.
