SMT Honda's Karl Harris is said to be conscious and under observation for a back injury after his massive crash going into Shell Oil corner after just four laps of this afternoon's first British Superbike Championship race at Oulton park.
Harris got tangled up with Hydrex Honda's Tommy Hill after Hill had pushed team-mate Stuart Easton wide going through Island Bend. Harris was on the outside of Hill and may have caught the Yorkshireman's front brake. Harris then looked to stamp on the rear brake in order to slow down but was pinged off and bounced off the gravel and into the barriers.
The race was put under safety car conditions and then red-flagged.
Update 6pm: Harris has been taken for a scan at Leighton Hospital, Crewe as a precaution but nothing serious is suspected
