OULTON BSB FINAL: MCCONNELL HANGS ON TO SECOND

MAP Raceways Yamaha's Billy McConnell managed to hang on to second in the British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park despite a tyre gamble which saw him finish a lowly 19th.

The Aussie, who was 11 points behind eventual champion Steve Plater going into the race, chose a soft tyre and was able to set the pace in the opening laps, but he slipped back as the tyre went off, and made a big mistake towards the end which saw him run off track.

“We went for a soft tyre but unfortunately it didn’t work. I got a good start and I thought it was going to be ok but my dream turned into a nightmare  pretty quickly," said McConnell.

"That’s racing I guess. A podium would have been nice but we went all out and tried our best. We’ll re-group and come back stronger.”
