Oulton BSB: First victory in five years a ‘relief’ for Easton

PBM Kawasaki’s Stuart Easton is one happy rider this evening after he successfully held off the charges of JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes to take the second MCE British Superbike race win at Oulton Park.

Easton was battling up the sharp end for the majority of race two and was dicing with the front pack alongside team-mate Shane Byrne and Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari. But the duelling duo crashed out paving the way for Easton to take the spoils.

It has been a tough few years for the Hawick lad and has come back from serious injury to win a Motorpoint Supersport Championship and is already in Showdown contention with his Paul Bird team. Now he has clinched his first win of the year Easton is now feeling relieved and wants to keep up his good form going into the next round at Snetterton in June.

“First of all it was a bit fortunate to get the win, but second and third was James and Josh so it was not mean feat and I was running with the front guys anyway. Then Byrne and Kiyo crashed and I did a couple of 1’35’s and had to ride defensively with two laps left to get the win,” said Easton, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“[The win] is a big relief as in 2011 I nearly died racing and it’s been a long road back. 2012 was a rough year and then I went on to win Supersport and then last year I finished seventh, but the last few years have been tough.

“My crew chief Nick and mechanic Sam have worked really well and I am confident in my crew and my bike – as confidence is what is important to me. I will take the win and we can get our heads down in the break and keep pushing for improvements and I am a happy boy tonight.”
