WD40 Racing's Joe Francis stormed to his first Monster Energy Motostar victory of the season in the sunshine of Oulton Park, holding off Tarran Mackenzie on the last lap who stormed through from the back of the grid. Tom Carne was the first 125 machine home, extending his championship lead.
RS Racing's Joe Irving took the holeshot on this KTM Moto3 but he was quickly joined at the front by Francis and Carne as the trio began to move away from the gaggle of riders behind them. The trio swapped places lap after lap, corner after corner, which was playing into the hands of Red Bull Rookie rider Tarran Mackenzie.
At half race distance, Mackenzie was in fourth place and chasing down the three second gap ahead of him. The young Scotsman who flew over from Jerez overnight to participate in the race, eventually caught and passed Carne, which left the three Moto3 machines to battle for the lead.
Holmfirth rider, Irving, came under some difficulties with arm pump and dropped backwards leaving Mackenzie and Francis on the last lap. Redline KTM's Mackenzie looked for a move under the inside of Francis at several points but couldn't move past the WD40 backed rider.
Francis held on take victory by just 0.055 of a second ahead of Mackenzie, with Irving taking third. Mancunian Carne took the 125 victory, ahead of e3 Motorsport's Arnie Shelton and the winner of the Thruxton round, Peter Sutherland.
Repli-Cast Racing's Paul Jordan came through in seventh overall, with Callum Bey beating Ed Rendell in the battle for eighth, but by just 0.049 of a second. SP125's Elliot Lodge rounded out the top ten.
