Championship leader and pole position man Martin Glossop of KRP/Bradley Smith Racing took the win by 4.3s at the second round of the British 125GP Championship at Oulton Park while Tim Hastings took the win for the ACU Academy Cup.
In the continuous dreary conditions the race saw a crash at the first corner involving Lee Costello of Vent-Axia/www.sp125racing.com who ran onto the grass, the crash throwing him off with his bike coming to a stop at the edge of the track.
Meanwhile Glossop got his head down followed by Adam Blacklock of Repli-Cast UK who was hot on his tail until he received a ride through penalty for a jump start which pushed him down to 20th, before not finishing the race.
This gave Glossop a 2.4 second lead until Shaun Horsman of Symitry I.T North hunted him down, but unfortunately couldn’t complete the task as he crashed out on lap nine.
Battling it out now for second and third place was Guiver with James Lodge of KRP/Earnshaws Motorcycles and Tom Hayward of KRP/Daniel Hayward Racing. The group of three drew closer to one another and the battle really began.
Hayward had been overtaken by Guiver who then started to attack Lodge. The real showdown was on the last corner as Guiver did an inside move on the last corner which forced Lodge to sit up slightly putting him down a position.
Immediately Hayward tried to take advantage and they looked to have touched, but Guiver managed to hold him off to take the last step of the podium behind second place man Guiver.
Tim Hastings of KRP/Bradley Smith Racing finished sixth overall taking first place in the Cup Championship, Corey Lewis of Corey Lewis Racing in ninth place claimed second with Sam Hornsey of Team Hornsey Steels a place behind taking the final podium trophy.
Another eye catcher was Catherine Green of www.cgracing27.co.uk who qualified 16th but used every inch of track to finish 8th overall. Further crashes involved Jon McPhee,Nicole McAleer, Shaun Winfield, all look fortunately to be ok and Paul Jordan was forced out with a technical issue.
