Oulton BSB: ‘I am still not fast enough’ – Kiyo

Samsung Honda’s Ryuichi Kiyonari came away from the Oulton Park MCE British Superbike weekend with a third place podium. He was in contention for another rostrum in the final race but went wide at Hizzy’s, shich placed him at the pack of the grid. In the end he found the speed to go from last to tenth. But the rider is still struggling with his race pace, and understands that he needs to improve over the next two rounds, in order for him to make it into the Showdown places.

In race two, the Japanese racer was able to take advantage of his crashing team-mate, Alex Lowes to take another valuable podium, and Kiyo admits that he was lucky.

“I don’t want to keep saying ‘if’ but if I had more laps on the last race I could have ended higher than I did, and had a better position. I finished the weekend positively, but I qualified in seventeenth then I got podium and then tenth is a little bit better,” said Kiyonari, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“It is good that I got on the podium, and a podium is a podium and I was lucky, and it was good to get podium credits. But I am still not fast enough and hopefully I can do better at Cadwell and Donington before the Showdown.”
