Oulton BSB: Iddon fastest in damp opening practice

Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon was the quickest rider at a drying Oulton Park circuit and ended the morning with a 1’42.734 during the first MCE British Superbike free practice session.

There was a light rain shower just before the session started but then the blue skies appeared and the wet track started to dry up, and the conditions changed to damp. Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes posted the second fastest time and was three tenths off the last lap dash of Iddon after a 1’45.671 rotation.

Rookie, Bradley Ray went P3 with a solid 1’45.825. But many of the showdown riders did not venture out until the very end of the session and only did an average of five laps. Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran was seventh with Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne in eighth on the timing-screens.

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam went P16 with his team-mate Luke Mossey only completing three laps to go 19th. Smiths Racing’s Peter Hickman was 17th quickest after six laps. RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon is the youngster rider to ever make it into the showdown and he was unfazed by the damp track conditions and lapped a time that placed his ZX-10RR sixth overall. Bridewell and Jackson rounded up the top ten fastest times.

There were a few absentees today and they were Bennetts Suzuki’s Taylor Mackenzie and Tyco BMW’s Andy Reid. The pair succumbed to injuries during the second BSB race at Silverstone. Mackenzie is nursing a broken left foot and Reid is recovering from a fractured femur.
