Oulton BSB: Last-lap Brookes snatches top spot

Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes has begun to come good on his ambition of winning three British Superbike races in the space of a weekend by snatching top spot in the second free practice session at Oulton Park this afternoon.

The Bringelly man, who wants to join Leon Camier and Ryuichi Kiyonari as the only triplers, used his final lap to knock Shane Byrne off the top of the timesheet with a 1'36.325 only a few seconds after Byrne had done the same thing to reigning champion Tommy Hill, who is only two-tenths slower than the Australian.

Brookes' team-mate Alastair Seeley slipped down to fourth place after leading as the clock ticked down, finishing on a 1'36.793 and just in front of fellow Irishman and series leader Ian Lowry on the Padgett's Honda Fireblade. The ex-chef is in fifth place on a 1'36.877 which was enough to keep veteran Chris Walker in sixth.

This morning crasher and creater of much Twitter merriment Patric Muff finished the session in seventh ahead of Dan Linfoot, who jumped up the order in the dying minutes to depose Tommy Bridwell, on the second Supersonic bike, down to ninth. Sansung Honda team-leader Michael Laverty rounded out the top ten.

Noriyuki Haga was 11th ahead of Jon Kirkham with Stuart Easton, Michael Rutter and Alex Lowes rounding out the top 15.
