Oulton BSB: Linfoot remains in Showdown contention after fifth place finish

Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot may have not made it on to the podium in the first of the MCE British Superbike races this weekend at Oulton Park, but he held on to take fifth, and bagged enough points to stay inside the top six.

Throughout the majority of race one, the Yorkshireman was locked in a battle for fourth with Fireblade team-mate, Jason O’Halloran, but after not the best of starts he could not catch up with the Aussie to make an overtaking move that stuck, and crossed the line in fifth.

Linfoot remains in Showdown contention on 156 points and stays fifth overall, and is feeling confident that he can improve even more in the remaining two races and to be able to join O’Halloran
in the Showdown, for the remainder of the year.

“It is probably about the bare minimum of what is acceptable to be honest this weekend. I had a pretty low qualifying and I didn’t feel so pissed off about it, as I knew I had a better feeling for the race,” said Linfoot, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

“But I made quite an average start and I went wide in turn one and went back to eleventh and I feel if I can get away cleanly I could have been a lot more stronger than I actually was. So I
hope tomorrow to fight for the bottom step of the podium or for sure fourth. Those sort of points should put us in a strong position overall and it is tightening up - the points are tight.

“We have got to keep beating Michael and Cooper and Hickman ideally and then we should be safe, and people are coming strong just when they need to. I have two races to go and I hope to
get stronger with them and I am not worried and I am looking forward to both of them.”
