Oulton BSB: Lap record pace 'comforting' for Brookes

Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes was only one tenth off his own lap record at Oulton Park in the second MCE British Superbike free practice session and says it is comforting to be this fast so soon.

The Bringelly rider has made ‘progress’ from when he was at the Cheshire track a few months ago and his team in the meantime have made improvements to the R1.

Brookes lapped a 1’34.557 and believes that there is more to come, and is comforted by the notion that even without more improvements he was only 0.1s off his lap record that he set back in 2015.

“I struggled at the round here earlier in the year and you can’t be in that position, you have to be on the game in every session and every race,” said Brookes.

“We have made progress today and that is not a surprise as a lot has happened since we were here earlier in the year and we have made improvements.

“I am quite happy with the progress we have made and I don’t feel that my laps today were as tidy as they could have been so there is definitely more to come. To be that close to the lap record and know we still have improvements to make is a comforting sign.”
