Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne was the quickest rider in the second MCE British Superbike free practice session at Oulton Park, and the current championship leader and his team are going to refine his Panigale in time for qualifying and the first race tomorrow.
Byrne lapped an extremely quick, 1’34.685, and was only 0.2 seconds off his own outright lap record at the Cheshire track. He left his best rotation until last and in the process dethroned JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam from the top of the timesheets.
It is the second time that the BSB series has visited the track for a race weekend this year, and for the four-time title winner he is enjoying riding his Ducati more now, than he did earlier at the circuit.
“It was a good run of laps. We went out with a new rear tyre the exit before and I got stuck in traffic and then the second time there was drops of rain and I pulled in,” said Byrne.
“I went back out for the last four minutes and did another three or four laps and the last one was quickest, I am enjoying riding the Be Wiser Ducati here – more than earlier in the season.
“There are a few things to chip away with but generally I am pretty happy. It felt like my bike and we need to chip away and refine things ready for qualifying and the first race tomorrow.”
