Jason O’Halloran made a dream start to the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the weekend with the McAMS Yamaha rider taking all three race wins at Oulton Park in emphatic style and whilst it’s true his greatest winning margin was only 0.630s he looked in control throughout.
The Australian had shown to be the form man during pre-season testing, topping two of the four tests, and he brought that form, and speed, with him to Oulton. Even a technical issue after just two laps of qualifying didn’t hinder his progress.
Having already taken a brace of wins at the venue in 2020, O’Halloran was the man to beat at the weekend and three measured rides, where he shadowed Christian Iddon before timing his move to perfection, duly gave him the victories for his best ever BSB weekend.
“It seems a bit surreal to be honest and whilst it’s always nice to start with a win, starting with three is pretty special,” a delighted O’Halloran said at the conclusion of round one.
“I knew we had the speed in testing especially on used tyres but you never really know until you get going. Christian was riding really well and I was trying to force him into a mistake but he was riding so well in each race it was hard to pass him.”
“In Sunday’s first race, I got good drive out of Druids and took the inside line at Lodge and although I didn’t get out of the corner as well as I would have liked, I held it to the line. I didn’t want to leave it that late in the second race so made the move a bit earlier and three wins is just the perfect start to our season.”
