Oulton BSB: ‘The wins are not far off’ – O’Halloran

Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran believes the wins are not far off after just missing out on victory in today’s second Bennetts British Superbike race.

The Honda Racing rider crossed the line second, just 0.086s behind double winner Leon Haslam.

O’Halloran, who started the race from fifth on the grid, had looked frighteningly quick from the outset, as he settled into fourth spot behind Haslam on the opening lap.

And he continued to push hard, moving from fourth to second on the third lap as he passed Haslam and Buildbase Suzuki’s Bradley Ray, and began to close in on Jake Dixon who was in the lead.

Taking the lead on lap five, he lost out to Haslam seven laps later, but kept in close touch.

On the last lap, he took a couple of glances down the inside of Haslam’s JG Speedfit Kawasaki, but decided to settle for the points.

“I had a look at the last corner, but it’s so dicey. I’d gone with him and I was really comfortable, but I was at the limit and Leon is very strong on the brakes,” he said

“But it’s only a matter of time before we win some races this year. We are improving all the time.”

After finishing seventh in race one, the team worked against the clock to replace the engine and gearbox, which the Aussie attributes to his strong pace in the second.

“The bike was brilliant, they gave me an absolutely perfect motorbike,” he added. “The 20 points is great for us.

“I think we’re on the way up, we’re just trying to find our feet now and we’ve got a few things to try at the next test. The wins are not far off now, we’re going to get even stronger yet.”
