Samsung Honda rider Alex Lowes set the fastest lap time in the MCE British Superbike free practice session at Oulton Park this afternoon, fending off charges from Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes.
The young rider did not venture out in the rain in the first free practice session, but did manage to make an impact on his seventh lap, overtaking reigning champ Byrne in the process, in the second session. But even though Lowes topped the time-sheets he is adamant that there is still a lot of work to do on the bike.
“It was not bad today, I missed a session this morning, so we are still doing first session things on the Honda, so there is a lot to do on the bike. But I feel good, and hopefully we can improve the bike tomorrow and have a good weekend,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.
“It would have been nice to have had some laps this morning, but I think we are in a decent position and I will work hard, and I know I will be ready tomorrow.
“We are making quite a few suspension changes and trying to get a bit more confident out on the bike, so that is the plan, and see if we can improve the bike tomorrow.”
