Shane Byrne 1’33.933
Tommy Bridewell 1’34.070
Leon Haslam 1’34.112
Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne blasted his way to the MCE British Superbike pole position and set a new outright lap record in the process, going five tenths quicker than his own previous best lap record at Oulton Park.
The multiple-champ smashed his way into the 1’33’s in qualifying with a 1’33.933, and was the only racer to lap a sub 1’34. Bennetts Suzuki’s Tommy Bridewell will share the front row with Byrne as he put down an impressive 1’34.070 to go P2.
A rider who has already confirmed his place in the Showdown , JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam completed the front row after a 1’34.112 rotation.
Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran, Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey and JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison make up row two.
Ellison’s other team-mate, Peter Hickman heads row three with Showdown hopeful, Richard Cooper and ePayMe Yamaha’s John Hopkins finishing the session in eighth and ninth on the starting grid, ready for race one later this afternoon.
Tommy Bridewell 1’34.261
Shane Byrne 1’34.295
Leon Haslam 1’34.304
It was Bridewell who set a phenomenally quick time, of a 1’34.261 to go into P1 on the timesheets. Hot on his tail was Byrne, who also made it inside the 1’34’s, followed by Haslam.
Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot missed out on a place in Q3 by 0.04 seconds, as Hopkins went quicker than him while the Fireblade racert retreated back into his garage and in doing so pushed Linfoot down to tenth on the sheets and out of contention for a chance to battle for the number one spot on the starting grid.
Fellow Showdown challenger, Michael Laverty was another racer who did not set a time quick enough to make it into the top nine, alongside his team-mate, Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon. Irwin, Dixon, Jackson, McConnell, Parkes and Buchan also found themselves in the drop zone.
James Ellison 1’34.492
Leon Haslam 1’34.709
Richard Cooper 1’34.733
It was a JG Speedfit Kawasaki one, two in the opening qualifying session, with Ellison edging ahead of Haslam by three tenths of a second, with Cooper competing the provisional front row.
It was not the best of sessions for Smith Racing’s newest recruit, Ryuichi Kiyonari as a last lap dash could not save him and he remained 20th on the timing-screens, followed by his team-mate, Smrz and both failed to make it through to the second qualifying session and a chance to fight for pole.
Moto Rapido Ducati’s Stuart Easton also did not make it out of the drop zone, and it was the same for WD-40’s Kennedy and Hook, and Rispoli and Backlund.
ePayMe Yamaha’s Broc Parkes was languishing inside the elimination spots but redeemed himself to make it into P16 on his final rotation, with Buchan hanging on to a place in Q2 by a tiny 0.01 seconds.
