Former Moto2 World Championship racer Rory Skinner will return to the British Superbike Championship [BSB] for 2024 after agreeing a new deal to race with Cheshire Mouldings TAS Racing on its BMW M 1000 RR.

The Scot is back in the domestic series he last raced in 2021 and 2022 after losing his seat with the American Racing team in the intermediate Grand Prix class at the end of the 2023 Moto2 season.

Skinner was expected to get a second season with American Racing as per his contract in 2024, but was replaced by Marcos Ramirez, whose podium-winning pace convinced the team to hire him over retaining the Scot.

Nevertheless, after a period of uncertainty, Skinner will be back on the 'big bike' for 2024 after joining forces with stalwart team TAS Racing, which celebrates its 25th Anniversary this year with new title backing from Cheshire Mouldings.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started with the Cheshire Mouldings by TAS Racing BMW team," Skinner said. "The crew that Philip Neill has put together for me is very exciting, and to be able to bring my crew chief Stuart Shenton from Grand Prix is a major plus.

"Seeing the bikes for the first time at the launch just made it feel that bit more real, and I’m sure everyone will agree, they look absolutely superb. It’s going to be an exciting season coming back to BSB and being able to race in front of the British fans is always very special. I can’t wait to get underway."

Skinner - who replaces Danny Buchan in the team - will target the Title Showdown again in 2024

Though only 22-years old, Skinner has already notched up an impressive array of credentials at domestic level with a dominant run to the British Supersport title in 2020 before going on to collect multiple podiums en route to the 2022 BSB Title Showdown with FS-3 Racing Kawasaki

"In the Superbike class we are delighted to have been able to bring Rory back to BSB where I think everyone would agree, he was about to become a big star before he left for Moto2," said team principal Philip Neill.

"We’re delighted he has chosen TAS Racing, where he will campaign the Cheshire Mouldings BMW M 1000 RR. And it’s fair to say he has already made a big impression on us with his commitment and desire. I’m sure it will be an exciting and enjoyable year ahead for us all.”
