Silverstone BSB: Bridewell says top as showers disrupt FP2

Oxford Products Ducati’s Tommy Bridewell retained his Friday crown at Silverstone after rain disrupted play in Bennetts British Superbike’s FP2.

It was a muted start to FP2 after a rain shower hit the track ahead of the afternoon’s final 40-minute session. Only Rich Energy OMG BMW’s Kyle Ryde, Silicone Engineering’s Dean Harrison and Black Onyx Security Honda’s Luke Hopkins attempted laps in the opening half as the rest waited for conditions to improve.

The result was a flurry of activity in the final few minutes as FHO Racing’s Peter Hickman and Honda’s Glenn Irwin ventured out followed by the rest. Bridewell initially circulated a second off his earlier best, with Andrew Irwin running closest to the Ducati’s FP1 benchmark, with a 53.961 in the penultimate minute.
