Silverstone BSB: Byrne feeling ‘positive’ with harder rear Pirelli

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne came away from the ninth round of the MCE British Superbike series at Silverstone in a positive mood, as he found solid pace on the harder rear Pirelli tyre.

It is the first time this year that Byrne has decided to use the SC1 rear in a race, and in dry but cold conditions he found he had the speed to challenge for the win alongside side Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes, who rode on the softer rear tyre in race two.

As the seasons turn colder Byrne predicts that he may be using the harder rear more regularly with three rounds remaining, and will probably not be able to use his usua  SC0 rear compound. The Panigale man was also the first rider to be confirmed in the showdown and currently leads the series with 532 points.

“It has been a difficult year for just about everyone. I have had a couple of rounds off, and Leon has had a rounds off and Josh has been out for a few races and all of us in some point or another have won races, that kind of hurts you in the points stake,” said Byrne at the track.

“15 podium points were up for grabs this weekend and we came for all 15 and we came away with one which is not ideal. It has been a difficult weekend. I have been upside down twice and that is not ideal but from a positive point of view we raced the SC1 in the dry.

“It is no secret me and Josh always usually use the zero and with the Autumnal weather coming the track temperatures and conditions were not going to be through the roof anymore so it might be the tyre we have to use. With Josh racing a zero and us racing with the one and having a battle with him I think it is quite a positive thing. I am taking the positives forward and looking ahead to Oulton Park.”
