Silverstone BSB: Byrne’s new lid sends joke warning to Lowes

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne revealed his new lid at today’s MCE British Superbike free practice session, and the new design features the moment that the rider and Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes collided in the final race at Assen a few weeks ago.

The Derby rider was later docked 25 points over the incident, which left Byrne battered and bruised. The clash resulted in Byrne crashing out and damaged his bike and helmet in the process. The triple champion had his designer put together some new art work for the lid and did not know until today what it would look like, but Byrne is really happy with the outcome.

“Basically after Assen my helmet was trashed and my designer said that he was going to do something a little bit different, but it was ironic as he had already done a design for me and it was black and I thought it was really cool,” said Byrne, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“But then a new one turned up and saw it for the first time today and I thought it was absolutely brilliant, especially when I saw the bit on the back. I would love to take the credit but I can’t.”
