ePayMe Yamaha’s John Hopkins is feeling ‘great’ onboard his R1, and ended the day third fastest in the second MCE British Superbike free practice session this afternoon at Silverstone.
A 2’07.231 meant that the American rider was able to out-pace rivals, Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne, JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s and Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran, and was only sixth tenths off the best lap set by the quickest rider of the day, Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon.
In the morning session Hopkins braved the mixed weather conditions and was able to go P2 out on the damp track. Now he is hoping for a better weather forecast on Saturday, but he is more than happy with how things are going with his Tommy Hill managed team and with the Yamaha, and he’s feeling confident.
“I feel great, we got unfortunately held back by the weather conditions as they were so-so and it was not a full dry track,” said Hopkins, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the circuit this evening.
“But we made most of the conditions and we have got a few things to try tomorrow, but we have got to see what the weather brings. I feel really good, the team are great, the bike is working great - but it is just the weather we have got to see for the sessions on Saturday, but I am feeling good.”
