Championship leader Leon Haslam admits he’s feeling confident ahead of the Showdown, but knows it probably won’t be an easy ride.
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider could technically sew up the title early as he heads into the Showdown with a 45 point lead, but he admits there are plenty of factors which could throw a spanner in the works.
As he celebrated a hat-trick at Silverstone this weekend, he is looking forward to heading to three of his favourite tracks, but admits things could easily change.
“Right now I can’t ask for anything more, I’ve got a 45 point lead going into the Showdown and now we head to three of my favourite circuits,” he said.
“At Oulton and Assen we know we’ve got pace, we know we can win in the wet and dry. Jake’s currently second and he goes well at Oulton as well but he’s not beaten me around there, or at Assen or at Brands.
“So you’ve got to look at who has beaten me at those tracks and it’s probably Josh at Brands. That one is a triple header so it’s going to be wait and see, it’s going to be a battle.”
Haslam knows other riders could also play their part, regardless of whether they are Showdown contenders or not.
“There’s other people in the mix as you can see now with Tarran and obviously the Hondas go well in the rain,” he added. “There are a lot of people who can be in the mix who aren’t in the Showdown so we’ve got to take it as it comes.”
