WFR Honda's Alex Lowes added the second MCE British Superbike race win to his first-outing victory at Silverstone this afternoon, passing championship leader Shane Byrne through Luffield on the last lap, to do his first double.
The Lincolnshire rider was in a race-long scrap with Byrne and Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes but was just able to stick his Fireblade underneath the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki of Byrne and crossed the line with just 0.042s in hand.
It was a disastrous day for reigning champion Tommy Hill who could only manage seventh place in the second outing and he now slips further behind in the title chase. There are 75 points available from three races at Brands Hatch but the Surrey carp-botherer has a mountain to climb.
Lowes, meanwhile, cements third place in the title chase and is now 42 points behind Byrne, who has increased his lead in the championship over Brookes to nine points.
