McAMS Yamaha's Jason O'Halloran will hope to go one better than his 2020 runner-up spot in this year's Bennetts British Superbike series and will begin his charge with tomorrow's official test at Silverstone.
Despite the strong year last season, the official Yamaha team haven’t rested upon their laurels with an intense winter development plan to further improve the YZF-R1 as an all-round, race-winning package. The team have several new parts to test over the new-look pre-season testing programme.
In previous years, pre-season testing has taken place in Spain to make use of the more favourable conditions in February and March. However, with the later start to the 2021 season, plus ongoing travel restrictions, all BSB testing will instead take place on home soil at circuits which feature on the championship calendar.
"It feels like a lifetime since we last rode at Brands Hatch in October so it'll be nice to get out this week," said O'Halloran.
"I've done a number of track days on an R1 stocker to get my eye in, so I'm excited to get out on the race bike. Last year was good for us but you can't rest on your laurels.
'The boys have been working hard in the winter and we've a few things to try. Silverstone will be a good place to start because while we were strong there, there were a number of areas I'd like to improve - stuff like that will be a real bonus of testing in the UK this year. I can't wait to get started."
