Snetterton BSB: 'Bit of a miracle' needed for Hickman

FHO BMW’s Peter Hickman reckons it will take ‘a bit of a miracle’ for him to secure a Showdown spot at this weekend’s Snetterton Bennetts British Superbike round but it is mathematically possible.

A tough home round at Cadwell means he arrives at the Title Fighter decider in tenth place in the overall standings and 34-points adrift of Kyle Ryde who currently holds the final position in the top eight

“I think the story of Cadwell Park was that we were just not as fast as we needed to be until the last race and by that time it was all too little, too late,” said Hickman.

“It was an unusual weekend; the bike actually felt pretty good even though we had a few little issues as you always do, but I just couldn’t really put my finger on why I wasn’t as fast as I needed to be.

“We managed to get a glimpse of the speed that we had in Superpole, but didn’t manage to carry that through to the first race. We then improved quite a bit for race two and then a lot for the last race but it was then too late.

It didn’t help that we missed some time during the test and that put us on the back foot, so we didn’t have the best weekend. In the last race I was fast enough to have been on the podium I think if I had got away at the front then I could have been with the front three.

“I did the fastest lap of the race with a 25.9, which was good, so we definitely had the pace to be there, I just couldn’t get there with the freight train I was in and there was a massive battle between the five of us there.

“It just wasn’t the weekend we needed, I needed three podiums and we didn’t get near it. Showdown wise it will take a bit of a miracle at Snetterton with where I am to Kyle, so I need for both him and Danny to have a bad weekend and me to be well inside the top four in all three races.

“Our only aim now can be do win all three races at Snetterton; that is all we can do and just hope that they have an average weekend like I just had. We can only concentrate on ourselves and do what we can do. We were really fast at Snetterton last year so hopefully this year we can be fast all weekend.”
