Beowulf Racing’s Patrick McDougall’s weekend didn’t go according to plan at the fifth round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 round at Snetterton. Due to battling through numerous race incidents his race result was dramatically effected.
McDougall went into the weekend with a vital two point lead, but only picked up a further two points at the Norfolk circuit. For the first time this season he slips from the top of the championship standings to third, 11 points behind Jamie Hamilton of Gearlink Kawasaki.
After qualifying on the front of the second row this was disappointing and unexpected, however McDougall has the time and experience to show he is by no means out of the title running. The next round at Knockhill will be vital with the championship running two rounds at the Scottish circuit making a total of 50 points up for grabs.
Prior to the race McDougall said: “My start to the season went really well, I had a win at Brands, but I was unlucky at Oulton, I suffered with really bad arm pump, very unlucky. At Donington I was on the front row I had a good start and hoped for the win.”
“I had a big highside but stayed on, but then I was pushed out wide and lost places ending up tenth. Thruxton was quite difficult I ended up sixth as I had a coming together with another rider.” It seems his race day bad luck continued through to Snetterton after again battling to stay on and finish he crossed the line in 14th again.
This will in no way phase the Guildford rider who has gained a variety of racing experience since he started road racing in 2003. In his first year he competed in the BMCRC Rookie 400 King of Clubs Championship before moving onto the R6 Cup.
McDougall has also taken on the European scene in the European Superstock 600 championship and 1000 Cup category. After taking the 2007 Bracken KTM 660 cup title last year he took part in some of the Supersport rounds to assist with the developing of the bike for World level.
McDougall wanted to be in the Supersport championship but the Superstock was more sensible regarding cost, but who knows what next year will bring. McDougall said: “Supersport is where I wanted to be, but if everything goes to plan hopefully next year but we will see. I love racing and it’s good to be in BSB.”
“It is a competitive championship, [Luke] Jones and [Jamie] Hamilton are really good and we are up against some top teams. Being a privateer team it is always difficult but I know we can be up in the sharp end. We need to be consistent, it’s about getting points."
"It would be nice to have another win and I think its due, but we have to see how it goes. I am looking forward to Brands Hatch GP, I love that track. I would like to say a big thank you to Richard Baker and Andy Stone for all their support."
