Quattro Kawasaki's Gary Mason has today completed a successful shakedown test of the ZX-10R he and team-mate Freddy Foray will ride in this year's British Superbike Championship and says it feels like he has never been away.
Lichfield's Mason, who was last seen being carried away from the Brands Hatch finale on a spineboard with a suspected broken neck, used a 2012-spec bike for the last part of the 2011 season and says that benefitted him while doing the first laps on his new bike at Donington Park.
"It really was a shakedown test for us but already the bike feels very together. The mapping is spot on for where we need to be, the power is there and now it is just a case of time on the bike to get me and it dialled in before Brands Hatch," said Mason, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"Freddy spent the morning on a road bike to get a feel for the track before he jumped onto the Superbike in the afternoon and he already feels at home. It's the first time he has ridden one as the rules for French Superbikes and Endurance are different. We're both happy and looking forward to the next test at Cadwell."
