Redline KTM's Tarran Mackenzie took pole position in the Monster Energy Motostar class, after the second session saw limited action with just four of the ten braving the drenched Thruxton circuit.
The first session this morning, which saw eventual pole-setter Mackenzie slip off, was held in dry conditions, therefore the second session held in heavy rain this afternoon had no effect on the grid positions as a consequence.
Son of three-time British Superbike champion Niall Mackenzie, Tarran, followed on from his first victory last week at Brands Hatch with his second pole position in the space of a week. Team WD40's Joe Francis was just 0.053 of a second behind his fellow Moto3 rider, and 0.651 of a second ahead of Joe Irving in third. Banks Racing's Ed Rendell is the first of the two-stroke machines and rounds out the front row in fourth.
Last week's 125 winner, Tom Carne, heads the second row in front of South African Jordan Weaving and the fastest woman in the world on a two-stroke, Catherine Green. Repli-Cast Racing's Paul Jordan will line-up eighth on the grid for tomorrow's race, just over two seconds adrift of the pole lap time.
