Thruxton BSB: Mossey fears his championship is over

Luke Mossey has admitted that his title fight is all but finished, despite qualifying on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s race.

While he believes any championship chances are out the window, the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider says he’s still gunning for top finishes to polish off the latter half of 2018.

Mossey has trudged through a difficult first half of the season with a highest finish of fifth in the very first race at Donington Park, and he currently sits 17th in the standings, 77 points adrift of Showdown contention.

But on the Bournemouth Kawasaki squad’s home turf this weekend, he remains optimistic that tomorrow can be the turning point which leads him to a revitalised mojo.

“I’m just so glad to be back on the front row,” Mossey said. “Everyone knows it’s been a real tough year for me, you just couldn’t write it the luck I’ve had.

“We’re taking it round by round, but the championship’s pretty much gone. But that still doesn’t stop us trying to get podiums and race wins before the end of the year.

“Hopefully now this is the turning point of our season. If we can get our first podium of the year tomorrow that’d be fantastic, but we’re obviously going for the race win.

“I’ve always had the confidence, I just needed a bit of luck. I still feel like the monkey’s on my back, so hopefully we can get it off tomorrow.”
