'Unfinished business' for Bridewell as he remains with Oxford Ducati

Tommy Bridewell has signed to stay with Steve Moore’s Oxford Racing Ducati team for the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike season and says he has unfinished business at the top end of the championship.

The team’s 2020 season didn’t go as well as anyone hoped as a struggle with bike setup meant they eventually finished some distance from the top three.

But Bridewell maintains that lessons were learned and that he wanted to remain with the same squad so they can make some steps forward for 2021.

“We’ve got unfinished business, me and the team. The team work very well for me and I feel like I work very well with the team,” Bridewell told bikesportnews.com.

“The relationship for me with the team is quite an open book. We’re not hiding secrets from each other. To be fair, even with Oxford Products, Andrew Hammond is a top sponsor. He’s an enthusiastic sponsor. He likes to be involved, which is good.

“Between the team, the title sponsor, and me, we do have quite a good relationship. So why would you want to go anywhere else, really? My first preference is always to stay with Ducati, and the best Ducati team for me and my environment is obviously Wilf.

We sat down and we want to understand why 2020 didn’t go as expected after such a good year in 2019. We talked about next season and straight away, we all wanted to stay together.

I wanted to get the deal done to stay with the team and now we can move straight on to what we can do to come out of the blocks in 2021 fighting where we know we can be.

I know we will get on top of it, because I believe in the team and we want to be winning races again. So, that’s that. So we’re going to see what happens.

“It will be nice to sort of get back to where we need to be and where we should be. I’m looking forward to getting out on the practice bike and getting back to some form of what I know I can do.”
