Walker not ready to hang up his leathers just yet

MCE British Superbike housewives’ favourite Chris Walker says he isn’t ready to hang up his leathers just yet and is ready for one more year of racing in the world’s most competitive domestic championship.

Walker, who will be 44 in March, was left high and dry when the Be Wiser Kawasaki team folded halfway through 2015 but he says wants to race on and is doing everything he can to make it happen.

“Next year’s plans – I have done nothing but think about them. I want to race, I wanted it to be my swansong, an opportunity to thank everyone who has made it happen for me in racing over the past twenty years or so, especially the marshals – there can’t be many who have not picked me up somewhere or other – the organisers and the BSB fans, the championship is so well supported – you get tweets and messages from all over the world. It is so special to me to be a part of it. It has been my home since 1996,” said Walker, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“It would be amazing to have one last year on a competitive bike, one last appearance, my way of saying thank you. I am working on it – I had pretty much agreed that I would continue in 2016 with the Be Wiser Kawasaki team as their development rider, along with Danny Buchan, on their all-new bike, so I had not really been talking to anyone else. Now, the rides have gone to younger riders. I had planned it to be a swansong year and not one to go out on a low.

“It is tough out there with openings limited, given my Kawasaki connections, now having a dealership. Last season you had five or six Kawasaki team, next season, two or three. I only want to race in BSB, if I can’t then I can watch it on TV and find another way to thank everyone.”
